Man Utd transfer news: Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic makes decision on Old Trafford move | Football | Sport

The Croatia international has been approached by the Red Devils.

That’s according to reports in Spain today as United look to overhaul their squad.

But the Daily Star claim Rakitic will not be making a switch to Old Trafford this summer.

That’s because the 31-year-old has no interest in joining a team who are not in the Champions League.

Barcelona could be tempted into selling Rakitic in order to fund moves for Matthijs de Ligt and Antoine Griezmann this summer.

But it appears the central midfielder has no intention of linking up with Solskjaer.

Rakitic was integral to Barcelona last season, netting five times and providing 10 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions.

That helped the Catalan club win La Liga.

Rakitic has been at Barcelona since 2014 and has helped them win four La Liga titles and the Champions League.

He also helped Croatia reach the World Cup final last year and remains one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the game.

Barcelona are understood to want £50million for Rakitic.

Manchester United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward is aware the player would have no resale value though once he reached the end of his contract at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are expected to have a busy summer after finishing down in sixth in the Premier League.

Daniel James from Swansea is to be the first new arrival with an announcement due at any point.

And Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes could follow next.

United have also bid £40m for Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka although the Eagles value the youngster at £60m.
