Kyrie Irving to Lakers: Kevin Durant planning to break up LeBron James reunion hopes | Other | Sport

That’s according to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, who reports Durant’s close relationship with Irving will likely see the pair link up in the Eastern Conference.

LeBron James has seemingly been stepping up his recruitment pitch to prospective free agents in recent weeks.

Multiple reports have suggested the 34-year-old has made contact with the likes of Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler.

But it also seems James is keen on a possible reunion with Irving, who has cut a frustrated figure in Boston this past season.

Irving reached out to James earlier in the season to apologise over the way he left the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2017, and James recently ‘liked’ a mocked up photo of the guard in a Lakers jersey.

However, Smith believes Irving is likely to follow Durant to either the New York Knicks or Brooklyn Nets.

“I happen to know that Kyrie Irving has been advised to go to L.A.,” he said on the Stephen A. Smith show.

“People have reminded him about how great his situation was.

“You might have wanted to leave personality wise, you might have clashed with LeBron but you two on the basketball court together was like poetry in motion.

“Kyrie has listened, but you also hear that Kyrie is incredibly, incredibly tight with KD.

“And because they’re so tight with each other – KD and Kyrie – chances are they’re going to be playing together.

“It’s going to be in New York and whether it’s going to be the Knicks or the Brooklyn Nets remain to be seen.

“You go to the Nets, you go to a better situation. You go to the Knicks, it ain’t going to be about Steve Mills or Scott Perry, it’ll be KD’s team.

“Kevin Durant, if he comes to New York, they will give him anything he wants.

“They will give him the coach he wants, the executives he wants, they’ll give him an avenue, they’ll give him anything he wants. Period.”
